Icahn: Trump has the Archie Bunker vote

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn says Donald Trump will win voters resembling the blue-collar protagonist of the ’70s sitcom “All in the Family.”
“If he sticks to what he’s doing, I certainly do not understand why any worker, any middle-class worker, you know, the Archie Bunker of the world — that was a great show, I used to watch it — those guys are going to vote for him,” he said Tuesday on CNBC. “They’re smart guys and they know they’re getting screwed and that is what I think will happen.”
{mosads}Icahn then defended comparing supporters of Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, with Bunker, a character seen as gruff and bigoted.
“Archie Bunker is a middle-class guy, somewhat educated even, that doesn’t know where his next check is coming [from] to send his son or daughter to school,” he said. “[He] doesn’t know if he’s going to keep his job. He’s a bright guy. He reads the stuff today.
“It’s not like, you know, tsarist Russia, where you were a serf. Why the hell should you vote for a system that is not giving them a good-paying job? I don’t mean it in any derogatory way.”
Icahn, who has endorsed Trump, added that he supports his fellow billionaire’s push for less economic regulation.
“The economy can’t exist, a capitalist economy can’t exist, when the government is perceived to be at war with business.”
The man behind “All in the Family” made the same comparison in June.
“He is Archie Bunker,” Norman Lear said on June 3. “I think of Donald Trump as the middle finger of the American right hand. Whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat, can we all seriously agree that this is bad for America?”
