Paul Ryan’s primary challenger launches pro-Trump super-PAC: report
Speaker Paul Ryan’s primary challenger has launched a pro-Donald Trump super-PAC, according to The Washington Post.
{mosads}Paul Nehlen, the businessman who lost to the Wisconsin Republican in last week’s primary, will serve as chairman of the new Citizens Revolt PAC.
Nehlen will hold a news conference Monday to discuss his plans, the Post reported.
He said he wants to build on the attention he got in the primary, primarily from populist and nationalist Republicans such as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Nehlen was also praised by Donald Trump during his primary, after the GOP presidential nominee initially refused to endorse Ryan. But Trump raised the ire of fellow Republicans with the move and eventually yielded to pressure, throwing his support behind the House leader shortly before the primary.
“We’re launching,” Nehlen said in an email, “to amplify the voices of hard-working Americans who have had enough of party leadership and who are ready to put out to pasture the political dynasties running America.
“Millions of hard-working Americans have had enough of the Clinton dynasty and they’ve had enough of career politicians colluding to keep outsiders like Donald Trump, who echoes their thoughts, out of power.”
According to the Post, Nehlen’s goal is to raise more than $1 million ahead of November to help Trump in swing states.
