Christie: ‘Must get to the bottom’ of Clinton Foundation relationships

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a top ally of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, released a statement Tuesday saying the Clinton Foundation “must be investigated now.”

{mosads}”With the revelation today that over 50% of the people Secretary Clinton met with from outside government were Clinton Foundation donors, we must get to the bottom of what looks like a pay to play scheme,” Christie said.

“As a former federal prosecutor, the path is clear. The Clinton Foundation must be investigated now.”

The fallout over Hillary Clinton‘s use of a private email server as secretary of State appears certain to dog her until Election Day, after a federal judge ordered the State Department to accelerate its production of nearly 15,000 previously unreleased emails uncovered by the FBI.

The revelation of the thousands of additional documents dovetailed with Monday’s release of another set of emails that exposed uncomfortably close ties between Clinton’s staff and the Clinton Foundation during the Democratic nominee’s tenure as secretary.

“Unfortunately, the only appropriate action for our compromised Attorney General is to appoint a truly impartial Special Prosecutor,” Christie said, echoing calls from others in the Trump camp.

“This must be investigated before Americans vote for President. Our system of justice deserves nothing less,” Christie added.

Trump has hammered Clinton over the email controversy and the Clinton Foundation, and has also called for the Justice Department to appoint an independent special prosecutor to investigate her.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus has repeatedly demanded the emails be released prior to the election.
