Pence: Trump’s changing immigration stance is ‘classic CEO process’
In a conversation with the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence said Donald Trump remains committed to building a border wall and to internal enforcement of immigration laws.
{mosads}Pence said the GOP presidential nominee’s stance on immigration will be clarified in the coming weeks and will be “completely consistent” with his prior statements on the issue.
“It’s a classic CEO process that I see up close and personal with him all the time. What you see as he’s finishing out his thinking on this is just listening to a lot of people and hearing from a lot of people,” the Indiana governor told the Richmond Times-Dispatch editorial board.
“At the end of the day, when he articulates a position it’s going to be very much consistent with the priorities that he’s laid forth and that have really resonated with millions of Americans.”
Trump’s message on immigration in recent days has confused onlookers, as he seems to be flipping back on forth on what to do with those already in the U.S. illegally.
Trump launched his campaign off a promise to deport all of the estimated 11 million people living in the U.S. illegally, but following a meeting with Hispanic leaders in mid-August, he has suggested he could soften his position and allow some undocumented immigrants to stay.
