Top aide: Trump ‘remarkably consistent’ on illegal immigration
A top Donald Trump aide on Tuesday insisted that Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has not changed his approach to illegal immigration.
{mosads}”What you’ve seen with Mr. Trump is he’s been remarkably consistent in his pledge to end illegal immigration,” senior communications adviser Jason Miller told “Fox and Friends.”
“We’re going to build the wall; we’re going to secure our borders; we’re going to enforce our immigration laws. We’re going to end sanctuary cities. We’re going to pass e-Verify and uphold the Constitution. That’s going to make a big difference in this country.”
Miller clarified that Trump would build a “physical wall” as he sought to quell reports that Trump may shift toward a “virtual wall.”
“Nothing has changed with Mr. Trump’s stance,” he said, adding that Trump would be the only candidate to stop illegal immigration and again emphasizing that Trump has been “remarkably consistent” with his plans.
Miller also noted that the country already deports a lot of people every year, but he said the U.S. needs to do a “much better job” than President Obama has been doing.
“Mr. Trump has said that we’re going to start with criminal illegals,” he said. “We have to go with the really bad ones and get them out of here first. That’s the No. 1 priority.”
Miller previewed Trump’s Wednesday address about his immigration proposal, saying the GOP nominee would be giving a “broader vision of what we’re going to do about the illegal immigration problem.”
“And I don’t want to get too far out ahead of that,” Miller said. “That’s something that he’s going to do and, quite frankly, [Democratic nominee] Hillary Clinton won’t.”
