Dem rep: ‘Forces’ trying to divide the US in presidential election

Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) on Sunday warned against “forces” in the U.S. trying to divide the country and take it back to another period. 

{mosads}”We must not let that happen,” Lewis said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” 

Asked by host John Dickerson if he sees that in the presidential campaign this year, he replied, “I see it very much so.” 

“There are forces that want to divide us, and we must not be divided. We’ve come so far and made so much progress by working and building together,” the civil rights leader said.

“Too many of my friends, too many of my colleagues, young people that I knew in ’63 and ’64 — white and African-American — died together, and we must not let their death be in vain.”
