A new round of battleground state polls conducted in the wake of the FBI’s stunning renewal of its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails shows a tight race in the eight states that could determine the outcome of the presidential election.
A survey from Remington Research Group shows Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump gaining on Clinton, the Democratic nominee, or growing his lead over her in seven of the eight states polled.
{mosads}Trump has leads of between 2 points and 5 points over Clinton in Florida, Nevada, North Carolina and Ohio.
Clinton leads Trump by between 1 point and 4 points in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.
The battlegrounds map still leans in Clinton’s favor. Trump must run the table in all of the states where he leads and pick off at least one where Clinton is favored.
The survey was conducted on behalf of the conservative consulting group Axiom Strategies, which was founded by Texas GOP Sen. Ted Cruz’s former campaign manager.
Some of their surveys throughout the cycle have shown Trump performing better than what other polls have found.
For instance, of the 23 surveys of North Carolina conducted since Sept. 22, Remington is the only one to have found Trump with a lead.
Still, the polls indicate that the FBI’s bombshell announcement to lawmakers about its ongoing investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of State may be boosting Trump.
Compared to the previous Remington survey released last week, Clinton has lost 1 point to Trump in each of the four states where she leads.
Trump has opened up a 4-point lead in Florida, where the candidates were tied in the previous survey. He also added a point to his lead in Nevada and Ohio, where he leads by 4 points and 5 points, respectively.
Only North Carolina was the outlier in the survey, with Trump’s lead shrinking from 3 points to 2 points.
“Last week, we found a presidential race where Hillary Clinton held a clear advantage,” Remington wrote in its analysis. “This week, we find an increasingly competitive race with just eight days to go.”
The Remington surveys were conducted Sunday and reached between 700 and 1,250 voters in each state, with the margins of error ranging from 2.8 points to 3.5 points.
