Poll: Missouri Senate candidates running neck and neck
The Senate race in Missouri is tight one week before Election Day, with the candidates within just 1 point of each other in a new Monmouth University poll.
{mosads}Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) is favored by 47 percent of likely voters in the state while Democratic challenger Jason Kander is supported by 46 percent.
Libertarian Jonathan Dine has the support of 2 percent of likely voters.
The Senate race has tightened since a poll taken in August, when Blunt had a 5-point lead over Kander, 48 percent to 43 percent. In a poll taken in mid-October, Blunt had a narrower advantage over Kander, 46 percent to 44 percent.
Ninety percent of those polled who back Hillary Clinton for president also back Kander, and 79 percent of Donald Trump supporters stand with Blunt.
According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls, Blunt has a 1-point lead over Kander.
In the presidential race in Missouri, Trump has opened up a double-digit lead over his Democratic rival, according to the new Monmouth poll.
The GOP nominee is favored by 52 percent of likely voters in the state, and Clinton is backed by just 38 percent.
Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson is backed by 4 percent of likely voters and Green Party nominee Jill Stein has the support of 2 percent.
Trump has widened his lead since a mid-October poll that showed him with a 5-point advantage.
The new poll was conducted from Oct. 28 to 31 among 405 likely Missouri voters. The margin of error is 4.9 percentage points.
