Hillary Clinton on Tuesday blasted Donald Trump for bankrolling an ad that criticized Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, saying it shows how dangerous his approach is.
{mosads}During a rally in Dade City, Fla., Clinton discussed an ad that Trump took out for almost $100,000 in 1987 criticizing Reagan on foreign policy.
“He said our leaders are the laughingstock of the world. This is a man who thinks he’s better than President Reagan, better than President Obama, literally better than anyone I guess,” she said.
“When you think about it, what he said at the convention, ‘I alone can fix it,’ runs counter to who we are as Americans.”
Trump spent $94,000 to run an advertisement on Sept. 2, 1987, in the New York Times, Washington Post and Boston Globe, BuzzFeed reported last year.
“The world is laughing at America’s politicians as we protect ships we don’t own, carrying oil we don’t need, destined for allies who won’t help,” Trump wrote in the ad.
“Let’s not let our great country be laughed at any more.”
Clinton on Tuesday said Republicans and independents are moving toward her because of their fears about Trump.
Her campaign regularly touts the endorsement of key figures from GOP administrations, particularly those in the foreign policy community.
