The Twitter account of Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller posted a message Tuesday that labeled Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton a “c—.”
The tweet was quickly deleted.
A spokesperson for Miller initially said the account was hacked but backtracked almost immediately.
The campaign said someone “inadvertently retweeted a tweet that they were not aware contained a derogatory term” and said Miller “finds the term vulgar and offensive and apologizes to anyone who may have seen it,” according to The Texas Tribune.
The initial tweet was deleted within 15 minutes of posting, the Tribune reported, and replaced with a message that said: “@MillerForTexas HAS BEEN HACKED. The disgusting re-tweet has been removed and we have changed all account passwords. Be advised.”
But that tweet was also taken down within minutes.
The initial tweet appeared to have been copied and pasted from another user and reported the results of a Pennsylvania poll that showed Trump with 44 percent and Clinton with 43 percent — but the since-deleted message had replaced Clinton’s name with the obscenity.
