Cruz to hit campaign trail for Trump

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) will appear with Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence at two events Thursday, his first appearance on the campaign trail for presidential nominee Donald Trump.

{mosads}Pence’s spokesman, Marc Lotter, confirmed reports of the joint appearance on Twitter Thursday afternoon, retweeting a news story and referring to the schedule as “exciting.” Cruz also retweeted the news.

The pair will campaign in Prole, Iowa, Thursday morning before an afternoon appearance in Portage, Mich. Cruz won the GOP presidential primary in Iowa and trailed Trump by about 10 points in Michigan.

Cruz’s decision not to endorse Trump roiled the Republican National Convention this summer and prompted a revolt among many of Cruz’s supporters — his own convention delegation booed him at an event the following day, and some top Texas lawmakers have reportedly begun to rumble about challenging him in a primary.

Trump bristled at Cruz’s non-endorsement, reviving conspiracy theories that Cruz’s father had been involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and declaring he would not accept Cruz’s endorsement. He also reportedly weighed starting a super PAC to sink Cruz’s political future

But the two former rivals have struck a political reconciliation, due in no small part to Cruz’s warm respect for Pence.

Trump also backed a internet-freedom plan championed by Cruz and named key Cruz confidante Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) as one of his possible Supreme Court choices.

Cruz ultimately endorsed Trump in October with a Facebook post arguing that Trump is the only chance for a conservative administration and stopping Hillary Clinton.
