President Obama on Thursday took aim at Republicans who are already discussing impeaching Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton if she’s elected president.
{mosads}“You’ve got some Republicans right now who are suggesting they will impeach Hillary. They don’t necessarily know why, but they’re just going to impeach her,” Obama said at a rally for Clinton in Miami, Fla.
“Imagine if you had sitting Democratic senators saying that about [Republican nominee] Donald Trump, before he was even elected, saying, ‘He will be impeached.’ ”
A few Republican lawmakers, including House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (Texas) and Sen. Ron Johnson (Wis.), have suggested the possibility of impeaching Clinton if she’s elected due to the investigation into her use of a private email server as secretary of State.
During the rally Thursday at Florida International University, Obama also mocked Republicans for their staunch opposition to him throughout his two terms, attacking them for being overly “obstructionist.”
“I will sometimes propose their own stuff and they’ll oppose it,” he said, prompting laughs from the crowd. “It surprises them. I’ll be like, ‘Well, this is in your Republican handbook. This is in your talking points. I thought y’all were for this.’ ”
“Yeah, but you’re for it now. We can’t be for that,” Republicans would respond, according to Obama.
“Come on, man.”
