Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) predicted on Sunday that the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold hearings on the “rogue elements in the FBI.”
{mosads}”I’m certain there will be hearings in the Judiciary Committee,” Franken told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union.”
“If you’re director of the FBI you should be able to prevent that from happening. That’s part of leading an organization,” he said, referencing “rogue elements” and reported dissension in the bureau. “It’s to keep the organization on a mission.”
FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to lawmakers Oct. 28, alerting them that the bureau recently found emails that may be “pertinent” to the investigation into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of State.
Democrats criticized Comey’s action, arguing that it went against practice not to take steps close to an election in the course of an investigation that could affect the outcome of the vote.
“I think it’s troubling that he put that vague letter out 11 days before the election,” said Franken.
