Obama slams GOP for impeachment talk: ‘They don’t know what for yet’

President Obama on Sunday slammed Republicans for talk of impeaching Hillary Clinton if she wins the White House.

{mosads}”They’re suggesting they might impeach Hillary. They don’t know what for yet,” Obama said during a rally for the Democratic nominee in the battleground state of Florida.

“But they’re thinking about it. You know what, that’s not how this democracy’s supposed to work.”

Obama said if a Democratic was threatening to do the same thing, he would say that it was “wrong.”

“It’s not any better when a Republican decides to do it,” he said.

“Gridlock is not some mysterious fog that descends on Washington. It’s not both sides being equally wrong.”

Obama attributed the gridlock in Washington to Republicans who oppose anything proposed by a Democrat.

He then urged people to vote for Democrats up and down the ticket.

“People who put you ahead of politics,” Obama said, “who are ready to do work and move this country forward.”

His comments echoed a radio ad in which Obama criticizes Republicans for talk of impeaching the Democratic nominee and calls for the gridlock and obstruction in Washington to be put to an end.

In recent days, some GOP congressmen have raised the possibility of a Clinton impeachment.

House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) last week said he thinks the Democratic nominee could be impeached over her private email server if she reaches the White House.

He said he would hate to see the country thrown into a “constitutional crisis” because of Clinton’s behavior.
