Gingrich: Comey caved to political pressure

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who backs GOP nominee Donald Trump for president, said FBI Director James Comey caved over the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of State.

Comey sent a letter to lawmakers Sunday, alerting them that the bureau would not be changing its July conclusion in the investigation, despite looking into new emails in the past two weeks.

“Comey must be under enormous political pressure to cave like this and announce something he cant possibly know,” the Gingrich wrote on Twitter.

Comey sent a letter to Congress on Oct. 28, informing lawmakers that the FBI had found emails that might have been relevant to the investigation into Clinton’s server.

The emails were reportedly found during a separate FBI investigation into former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY).

In July, Comey announced that the FBI had completed its investigation into Clinton’s server and that he would not be recommending charges me brought against the former Secretary of State.
