Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 6 points nationally, according to a new poll released a day before the elections.
{mosads}Clinton leads Trump, 50 percent to 44 percent, according to a Monmouth University poll.
Another 4 percent support Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson, while 1 percent support Jill Stein of the Green Party.
In the same poll conducted in mid-October, Clinton led 50 percent to 38 percent.
“A key finding in the poll is that Clinton’s vote share continues to hover near the 50 percent mark while Trump’s support has been more volatile,” said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute.
Trump continues to outperform Clinton among white voters, the poll shows.
Trump leads, 54 percent to 37 percent, among white voters, mainly due to a 59-to-30 percent advantage among white men.
He leads by a smaller margin, 49 percent to 44 percent, among white women.
Clinton continues to best Trump among nonwhite voters, 79 percent to 13 percent.
Regardless of who they support, a majority of voters think Clinton will win Tuesday.
While 57 percent think Clinton will win the White House, only 28 percent think Trump will.
Among those that think Clinton will win, 84 percent say she will win “fair and square,” while 11 percent say she will win because of a “rigged” system.
Among those who believe Trump will win, 92 percent say he will win “fair and square,” while 4 percent say he will win because of a “rigged” system.
“A very small number of voters anticipate a rigged election despite all the buzz about this being a concern,” said Murray.
The Monmouth University Poll was conducted by telephone from Nov. 3 to 6 among 802 registered voters. It has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
