Ryan calls Trump, Pence as election results come in
Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) called GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate, Mike Pence, early Wednesday morning as election results continue to show Trump ahead in electoral votes.
{mosads}Ryan called to congratulate the Republican presidential ticket on their big night, according to NBC News. The network reported that they had “very good conversations.”
The call comes as Trump leads Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, but before either has clinched the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House.
Ryan spoke on Tuesday night in his home state, saying that, “This could be a really good night for America.”
Republicans have retained both their majorities in the Senate and the House.
Ryan has had a tumultuous relationship with Trump throughout the campaign. But in the closing days of the race, the Speaker urged voters nationwide to back the real estate mogul.
On Tuesday evening, Fox News host Sean Hannity said Ryan would not be Speaker if Trump became president.
