Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) praised Donald Trump early Wednesday for winning the presidential election, arguing he will be a leader for all Americans.
“I believe we have elected a person who is going to lead for everybody,” Huckabee said on Fox and Friends.
“I know it has been a tough, controversial, and often combatted election. But if you listened to Donald Trump’s speech last night, you heard one of those magnanimous speeches ever given by a candidate, winning or losing,” he said.
{mosads}Trump gave a victory speech in the early morning hours Wednesday after Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton called to congratulate him on winning the presidency.
“And I thought that the healing message that he brought last night is indicative of how he will approach this job,” Huckabee added.
Huckabee referenced the anti-establishment fervor that has characterized much of the 2016 election, arguing Trump resonated with Americans.
“He brought them hope that he was listening to them and that he was going to work for them not just fro the people of institutions and government and finance,” he said.
