Megyn Kelly: Trump needs ‘our prayers’
Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly is calling on Americans to root for President-elect Donald Trump to succeed.
“Love him or hate him, he’s the president-elect of our country. The one thing he needs more than anything right now is our prayers and our good wishes for a strong performance. He’s got a lot to deal with,” Kelly said on “Live with Kelly” Wednesday.
{mosads}“That’s one of the things that makes us great. We go through this electoral process and we do get battered and bruised. But at the end of it, we do accept the result and we get behind the president.”
Kelly called on Trump’s critics and supporters alike to give him a fair shake as he assumes his duties as the nation’s 45th president.
“It’s helpful in life, and in politics, to try to perceive the other person through the most generous lens,” she said.
“If people can perceive Donald Trump through that lens now and give him the benefit of the doubt, and the Trump supporters can start to perceive the other half of the country in that same way, maybe there’ll be, I’m not going to say, a healing moment, but perhaps something a little more positive.”
Kelly said Americans should look past Trump’s contentious battle with Hillary Clinton.
“My philosophy in hard times or any time you feel sort of blue or threatened or scared is, remember who you are,” she said.
“What happens in the White House does not affect who you are, who your children are, what’s important you in your life. For the people who feel upset today, this is the United States of America, and it’s the most glorious place to live in the world.”
Trump stunned the world by defeating Clinton on Tuesday to win the presidency.
The president-elect harshly criticized Kelly during and after a GOP primary debate last summer, kicking off a months-long feud with the Fox News host that led to him skipping another debate hosted by Fox.
Trump accused Kelly of asking him unfair questions about his past treatment of women, and later said she had “blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever” during the debate.
