Priebus ‘in tears’ after Trump tapes were leaked: radio host
Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus was reportedly in tears after the release of a 2005 tape in which Donald Trump was heard making lewd comments about women.
{mosads}Conservative radio host Charlie Sykes told the Washington Post he was texting with Priebus after the early October release of a tape that featured Trump vulgarly describing groping women.
“He said, ‘I am in tears over this,’ ” Sykes, a prominent anti-Trump conservative, said.
“I said, ‘Reince, you are not going to allow Trump to come here and drop this turd bomb on every Republican in Wisconsin, are you?’ This video came out and the next day we’d have this photo op from hell?”
Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan had a planned joint campaign event in Wisconsin the day after the tapes were released. But Ryan said following its release that Trump would no longer be attending the event.
Trump faced backlash from both Democrats and Republicans following the release of the tape. Some Republicans withdrew their support from Trump and declined to vote for him in the election.
Several women also came forward after the tape’s release to accuse Trump of sexual misconduct — allegations Trump and his campaign strongly denied.
