The Democratic Party needs a clean sweep if it wants to rebuild after losing the presidential election to Donald Trump, Michael Moore said Sunday.
{mosads}The liberal filmmaker suggested the Democratic National Committee (DNC) make room for more progressive Democrats.
“I’m telling you, Jake, my sincere hope is that the DNC, that there is a clean sweep in this party. They have to — they all have to go,” Moore said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“And they have to make room for the progressive Democrats, who are going to come in here, who are going to be needed to fight the things that Trump is going to do to the people of this country and the world.”
Moore said he thinks the party would be better off running Oprah or Tom Hanks or other “beloved” celebrities as candidates.
“Why don’t we run beloved people? I mean, we have so many of them. The Republicans do this. They run [Ronald] Reagan and the Terminator and other people,” Moore said, referring to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
“Why don’t we run somebody that the American people love, that they are really drawn to and they’re smart and have good politics and all that? Why don’t Democrats do that?”
