Hagan challenger resigns from local office in Klingon

A third-party challenger to Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) can claim at least one skill the senator doesn’t have: the ability to write in Klingon.

David Waddell, who plans to run a write-in campaign on the Constitution Party’s platform in the North Carolina Senate race, resigned from the Indian Trail, N.C. Town Council with a letter written in Klingon, according to The Associated Press.

{mosads}Klingon is the language of a warrior species on the “Star Trek” television show, and is spoken by thousands of fans of the show, which has amassed a cult following since its debut in the 1960s.

The AP reports that Waddell said he chose to write his letter in the language as an “inside joke;” Indian Trail Mayor Michael Alvarez called the letter “unprofessional.”

Hagan is one of Republicans’ top targets in 2014, and is already facing five GOP challengers.
