Do Dems fear Broun the most in Georgia?

Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) is using the first television ad of his Senate campaign to argue that Democrats fear facing him the most in the general election.

{mosads}”The Democratic Party is attacking me for one reason: I’m the strongest conservative running for the U.S. Senate. Liberals fear a genuine conservative candidate,” Broun says in the ad.

Broun is one of five serious candidates running for Georgia’s open Senate seat and is a favorite of Tea Party activists in the state. Establishment Republicans worry he could be unelectable in a general election, while Democrats are hoping he’ll be the nominee.

Democrats have been looking to paint him as the most conservative candidate with attacks partly to rally the GOP base behind him, as they did for Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) in his 2012 Senate bid.

“I’ve never requested an earmark or supported a debt-ceiling increase. I fought to completely repeal ObamaCare and opposed bills that fund it, and I’ll never back down from defending Georgia conservative values. That’s why I’m the only Republican they’re running ads against,” Broun says in the ad.

The conservative congressman is running the ad on Fox News in the Atlanta and Macon media markets. He’s struggled so far with fundraising, and the ad buy’s size reflects that. The campaign has put $50,000 behind the ad.
