Begich remembers his dad in new ad

Sen. Mark Begich’s (D-Alaska) latest ad touts his deep ties to the state — and the price his family has paid for serving Alaska.

{mosads}Begich’s ad features clips of his father, former Rep. Nick Begich (D-Alaska), who died in a plane crash while serving in office.

“In Alaska, you go as far as it takes to see the people. And while we love having Mark at home, we know we share him with every Alaskan, like his father before him,” Begich’s wife says in the ad as clips of both Begiches play, including part of an old campaign ad from his dad.

“Mark was 10 when he lost his father. We’ve lost too many Alaskans this way. But Mark is clearly his father’s son, and there’s nowhere he won’t go to listen and stand up for Alaskans,” Begich’s wife continues. “I love my husband, but I’m prouder still of him as a father and what he learned from his own.”

Begich is banking on his deep family ties to the state to help him win a tough race, and he has been critical of the GOP front-runner, Dan Sullivan (R), for his time living outside Alaska.
