Hagan raises $2.8M for quarter

Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) pulled in $2.8 million over the last three months, an impressive haul for the vulnerable senator.

{mosads}Hagan, who has had more than $8 million spent against her by outside groups, has $8.3 million in the bank for her reelection battle.

Her most likely opponent, North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis (R), raised $1.3 million over the same period and has $1.3 million in the bank, according to his campaign manager — an improvement over past quarters but far short of what Hagan raised.

Tillis is facing a crowded primary field and may have to go to a runoff if he can’t win 40 percent of the vote in the early May primary, which could further drain his resources.

Establishment Republicans have swooped in to help boost Tillis — American Crossroads is airing more than $1 million in ads on his behalf, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has fundraised for him, and the Chamber of Commerce reportedly plans to endorse him in the coming days.

Hagan has been one of the strongest fundraisers in either party this year. With big-spending conservative groups like Americans for Prosperity making her their top target in the expensive state, she’ll need every penny.

Polls show a tight race in the slightly Republican-leaning state.
