Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is touting his conservative credentials in his newest ad, released one month ahead of his primary against Tea Party challenger Matt Bevin (R).
{mosads}”Mitch McConnell: He’s not a show horse, Mitch is a genuine Kentucky workhorse,” the ad’s narrator says. “Last year, he saved 99 percent of Kentuckians from an income tax increase. Mitch stopped bureaucrats from shutting down fishing below Barkley Dam, saving Kentucky jobs. Mitch fights for Kentucky miners against Obama’s war on coal and he’s leading the fight against ObamaCare. Mitch McConnell fights for our values, our future and our jobs.”
McConnell has held comfortable leads against Bevin in most polling, but is taking no chances on the May 20 primary and has been spending heavily to lock up a primary win.
He’s expected to face Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes (D) in the general election, where the two have been neck and neck in polling.
“It’s curious that a self-described ‘work horse’ hasn’t found the time to propose a jobs plan in the face of these trying economic times,” Grimes spokeswoman Charly Norton said in response to the ad.
