EMILY’s List launches $3M push in NC

EMILY’s List is launching $3 million worth of efforts to reelect Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.), kicking off with an ad attacking House Speaker Thom Tillis (R) on education cuts.

{mosads}The group, which supports pro-abortion rights Democratic women, will be a major player in a race that’s already featured more than $10 million in outside spending.

Its first ad of the broader effort goes after Tillis for helping to pass a budget that includes education cuts that also included “tax breaks for yachts and jets.”

“I love teaching. I can’t imagine doing anything else. But with a baby on the way, I don’t have a lot of extra money. On top of it all, I have to buy supplies for my classroom. And my classroom is getting a lot more crowded,” says a North Carolina teacher identified as Jasmine in the ad.

“Speaker Thom Tillis cut almost $500 million from education causing crowded classrooms, and forcing teachers to pay more out-of-pocket for school supplies, while Tillis protected tax breaks for yachts and jets,” the narrator says.

Tillis and Hagan have been neck-and-neck in polls in a crucial battle for Senate control.
