Romney will hit NH trail for Brown

New Hampshire Senate candidate Scott Brown (R) will pick up the endorsement of former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney next week.

CNN reports that Brown announced Romney’s endorsement in an email to supporters Tuesday morning, and he will join the Senate hopeful at an event in New Hampshire next Wednesday, July 2.

{mosads}Brown, a former senator for Massachusetts, is the likely front-runner among the Republicans vying for a chance to challenge Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D) for the seat. An endorsement from Romney, who is well known in the state, could further boost Brown’s support base.

Romney has endorsed several GOP primary candidates this election cycle, and so far every one has won. But the 2012 nominee appears on the campaign trail for the candidates less frequently, though he did recently appear in Iowa with state Sen. Joni Ernst, who later won her primary.

In the email announcing Romney’s endorsement, Brown praises Romney for “being right about so many things,” acknowledging the former Massachusetts governor as the better presidential candidate.

Brown also slams Shaheen for her allegiance to President Obama, saying that “President Obama’s allies in the Senate, including Senator Jeanne Shaheen, have supported his disastrous policies to the detriment of the American people.”

Brown will face former Sen. Bob Smith (R-N.H.) and former state Sen. Jim Rubens in the Republican primary Sept. 9. Though recent polls have shown Brown with a clear lead over his GOP opponents, a poll last week found Shaheen leading Brown by 10 percentage points.
