Republican wins second quarter Michigan cash race

Former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land (R) bested Rep. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) in second quarter fundraising, bringing in $3.35 million including from $1.2 million her own pocket.

{mosads}Land now has $5.25 million cash on hand. Peters raised nearly $2 million this quarter, but did not announce how much cash the campaign has on hand.

She has outpaced Peters in cash during every fundraising quarter since entering the race to clinch retiring Rep. Carl Levin’s (D-Mich.) seat, though much of that has been due to her ability to self-fund. She’s said previously that she’s planning to give her campaign $5 million.

Though he lags behind Land in fundraising, Peters is seen to be leading his opponent in the Senate race, with six statewide polls in a row showing him ahead. The most recent of these surveys, from Democratic automated firm Public Policy Polling, found Peters topping Land by five percentage points. 

Peters’ campaign has not yet announced its cash on hand or its spending during the second quarter.
