The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has reserved $2 million in airtime for a December runoff election, an indication the party expects Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) will not win an outright victory on Nov. 4.
{mosads}The reservation is the first the DSCC has made for the runoff, which most strategists have long expected to occur.
Landrieu is in a tight reelection race against Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), but polls indicate neither candidate is likely to win the 50 percent necessary to prevent a runoff.
Tea Party candidate Rob Maness is also running in the all-party primary election that will take place next month. If no candidate reaches 50 percent, the two top finishers will meet again in a Dec. 6 runoff.
Landrieu has had a slim lead over Cassidy in the all-party primary, but Cassidy has led in most polling in a head-to-head matchup.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee reserved Louisiana runoff time, as have the Republican-leaning Ending Spending Action Fund, National Rifle Association, and Freedom Partners.
