Tillis appearing solo in final NC Senate ‘debate’

North Carolina’s final Senate debate might be a bit one-sided, as North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis (R) is the only candidate scheduled to attend.

{mosads}Tillis will get an hour of solo TV in a “debate” hosted by the Raleigh News & Observer, the Charlotte Observer, and Time Warner Cable News.

Tillis is using the non-debate to call out Hagan — his campaign sent a media advisory about it with her listed as “TBD” and has brought it up on the campaign trail.

“We still keep asking her,” Tillis said on Saturday, according to the Fayeteville Observer. “We hope she’ll come.”

Hagan and Tillis have already debated three times.

“No, our campaign agreed to three debates in July. Same schedule that Sen. Burr and his opponent did in ’10, and three more than Sen. Dole agreed to do with Kay in ’08,” Hagan spokesman Chris Hayden told The Hill when asked if she would participate.

Hagan has had a small lead within the margin of error in most polling over Tillis, though Republicans believe the race has tightened.
