Actor Jamie Foxx wants everyday Americans to open their wallets to help Democrat Kamala Harris’s run for Senate.
The “Django Unchained” star wrote a fundraising email Wednesday for Harris, who is running to replace retiring Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.).
{mosads}“I joined team Kamala early on because I knew then what I still know to this day,” Foxx wrote in the message, obtained by The Hill.
“She’s smart, has integrity and is committed to making Californians’ lives better,” he continued. “If we’re serious about having a senator who’s going to fight for us, we’ve got to reach into our pockets and make it rain for this campaign.”
Foxx argues that Harris — California’s attorney general — has the legal background needed to be a senator.
“We want a senator who’s going to stand up for all of us — one who’s got experience fighting for safer communities, a healthier environment and more opportunities for every hardworking family,” he said.
“That’s my friend Kamala. I’ve been supporting her for years — ever since she was San Francisco District Attorney, running for Attorney General of California.”
Harris is in an intraparty struggle with Rep. Loretta Sanchez, who announced her own candidacy in May.
Harris revealed last month that she was overhauling her campaign staff amid concerns she is overspending before the June primary.
The Hill recently reported that Harris has used her campaign account to fund luxury hotel stays and first-class airfare.
A Dec. 9 review by The Hill concluded she had made such purchases repeatedly during her nearly five-year tenure as California’s attorney general.
Foxx’s fundraising pitch is the latest instance of Hollywood goodwill for Harris’s Senate bid. Federal Election Commission records show multiple performers from Tinseltown are donors for her campaign.
Singer John Legend, movie star Sean Penn and Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg are some of Harris’s contributors.
