Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Friday expressed confidence in his prediction that the GOP will maintain control of the Senate.

{mosads}Priebus told Fox News that Republicans will “absolutely” keep their majority in the chamber, as reported by Politico

“I don’t want to put a number on it. But I think certainly 51 or more,” Priebus said. “And I feel good the number will be more. As of today, we will hold the Senate, absolutely.”

There are currently 54 Republicans in the upper chamber, but the party faces some tough challenges this year in several states including Wisconsin, Illinois and Pennsylvania.

Races in New Hampshire, North Carolina, Missouri and Indiana are also tight as the Democrats make a push for Senate control.

Republicans are defending 24 Senate seats this year while Democrats defend 10.

Democrats need a net gain of four seats to win the majority if Hillary Clinton is elected president, or five seats if Donald Trump wins.
