Huntsman considering run for Senate in 2018

Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman says he is considering a Senate bid in 2018.

{mosads}“We’re going to take a good look at maybe a future Senate run in the state of Utah,” Huntsman said in a Monday interview on Bloomberg’s podcast “Benchmark.”

Huntsman, who also served as U.S. Ambassador to China during President Obama’s first term, added that his decision to run “in part would be based on what Senator Hatch chooses to do.”

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) pledged in 2012 that he would retire after his seventh term, which ends in 2018, but has since signaled that he is open to running again.

During the interview Monday, Huntsman needled Hatch, the second-longest-serving sitting senator, for his nearly 40 years in office.

“He’s been a productive senator for nearly half a century,” the former governor said. “I’m somebody personally who believes in term limits. I always have. You get in, do your job, you get out.”

“But time will tell,” he added.
