Group to launch $2M ad campaign targeting climate change skeptics

{mosads}The campaign will begin Monday, a day before a number of the group’s state leagues are targeting lawmakers locally with demonstrations on climate change.

It’s unclear which lawmakers the $2 million ad campaign will highlight, but the state leagues are targeting Reps. Robert Aderholt (R-Ala.), Mo Brooks (R-Colo.), Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.), Mike Coffman (R-Colo.), Scott Garrett (R-N.J.), Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), Robert Pittenger (R-N.C.), Robert Hurt (R-Va.), Andy Harris (R-Md.) and Darrel Issa (R-Calif.), as well as GOP Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn of Texas, Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.).

According to League spokesman Jeff Gohringer, the television ads will “hold climate change deniers in Congress accountable for their anti-science views and voting records.”

Though the ads are backed by the group’s advocacy arm, rather than its PAC, it believes targeting climate change skeptics in Congress could be a winning argument in 2014.

Last election cycle, the group launched a $1.5 million effort to defeat what they called the “Flat Earth Five,” five lawmakers who were skeptical of climate change science. All but one were defeated.
