Biden to visit Boston for bombing anniversary

Vice President Biden will speak April 15 at a local memorial service marking the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing.

According to the White House, the vice president and his wife, Jill, will “pay tribute to the victims, survivors and first responders.”

{mosads}Three people were killed, and hundreds were wounded in twin blasts that exploded near the race’s finish line.

The vice president traveled to Boston last spring to attend the memorial service for MIT Police Officer Sean Collier, who was allegedly shot and killed by Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the brothers accused of carrying out the bombing.

President Obama paid tribute to Boston during a championship celebration for the Red Sox at the White House last week.

“Boston stood resolute and unbowed and unbroken,” Obama said. “And as the smoke cleared, we gained inspiration from the injured who gamely tackled their recovery.”

Obama went on to praise “the selfless courage of everyday heroes who put their lives on the line to help others.”

“The first responders, the brave citizens, the resolute victims of these tragedies — they’re all Boston strong,” he said.
