Hall in stable condition after car crash

Rep. Ralph Hall (R-Texas), who at 91 is the oldest serving member of Congress, had surgery on Sunday after he was in a car accident on Saturday.

{mosads}WFAA quotes a hospital official who said Hall was in fair and stable condition after the unspecified surgery.

Hall suffered a hip injury and minor cuts and bruises after a car turned in front of his vehicle when he was leaving a county parade in Bonham, Texas, near Dallas.

The Dallas TV station reports that Hall was a passenger in the car and that neither driver was injured. He was airlifted to the Medical Center of Plano and was said to be conscious and joking with the paramedics. Hall is expected to make a full recovery.

Hall, who has served 17 terms, is set to leave office at the end of this term after losing in a primary in May to former U.S. attorney John Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe caught Hall off guard when he jumped into the race and positioned himself to the congressman’s right.
