Cantor heads to Harvard

Former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) will join Harvard’s Institute of Politics as a fellow for the spring semester, the university announced Thursday. 

{mosads}The group of fellows, which often includes former government officials, meets with students in classes and in outside discussions around their experiences in politics. 

Cantor is also vice chairman of Moelis & Co., an investment bank. 

Since his surprising loss in a primary in June to previously unknown challenger Dave Brat, Cantor has mostly been out of the spotlight.

He has given interviews and commented on politics from time to time, and urged both parties to work together earlier this month on CNBC. He also gave political tips at a January gathering of establishment Republicans in Virginia.

There has been speculation that Cantor might not be done with politics and could perhaps run for governor of Virginia in 2017.

He will be joined by some other Washington figures at Harvard.

Former Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, who lost a race for Senate in 2010 and one for governor last year, will also be a fellow.   

Also at the institute is former Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.), who lost in a tough election to Thom Tillis last year.
