A majority of voters want Washington to focus more on improving the nation’s fiscal health, a new poll showed on Tuesday.
Eighty-three percent want President Obama and Congress to spend more time addressing long-term fiscal and economic challenges, the Peter G. Peterson Foundation said in its April confidence index.
{mosads}”Voters understand that the country’s fiscal health is critical to building a strong, thriving economy,” said Michael Peterson, president and CEO of the Peterson Foundation.
“It’s clear that voters remain concerned about the nation’s long-term fiscal challenges, and are calling for Washington to take on these issues,” he said.
The poll showed that 80 percent want the nation’s fiscal health to be among the top three priorities for Congress and the White House.
Nearly 70 percent of voters say their level of concern about the nation’s fiscal direction has increased, according to the monthly gauge.
The nationwide poll included 1,006 registered voters surveyed by telephone between April 20-23. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent.
