Paul torches the tax code

Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), a Republican presidential candidate, on Friday used an Instagram photo to tease a speech in Michigan where he will talk about “destroying the tax code.”

The photo posted to Paul’s account shows the 2016 candidate wearing jeans and a T-shirt while standing in front of a wheelbarrow of burning papers.

Paul has called for the U.S. to scrap its current tax code and instead install a flax tax rate of 14.5 percent for all individual, business and investment income.

The current top rate for small businesses and families is near 40 percent, and 35 percent for corporations. Paul’s plan would also remove most tax breaks on the books.

He is completing a handful of campaign events in Michigan on Friday and Saturday. The Kentucky Republican is currently sixth in a crowded GOP field in the RealClearPolitics polling average.
