‘Hamilton’ creator: Trump no ‘working-class hero’

The creator of the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” says Donald Trump’s pitch to the American voters is nothing but political theater.

“If Trump performs the magic trick of making working-class people believe in a guy who spends his father’s money, more power to him,” said Lin-Manuel Miranda, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“But it’s an illusion,” he added. “This is not a working-class hero.”

{mosads}Miranda plays Alexander Hamilton in the acclaimed Broadway show about the Founding Father’s life.

He also said that the Republican presidential front-runner’s criticism of illegal immigration is unusual given the role immigration played in America’s founding.

“I’d be interested to see his reactions to the fact that one of our greatest commanders of the Revolutionary War and the creator of the financial system that allowed his father to get rich and allowed him to play with his father’s money were both immigrants,” he said.

Miranda added that Trump’s attitude continues a long history of prominent Americans distrusting foreigners.

“We’ve had characters like Trump in American politics forever, characters who trade on xenophobia,” Miranda said. “I don’t have to remind you of the ‘Irish Need Not Apply’ signs at the end of the 19th century.”

“My reaction to his comments about Mexicans isn’t important,” he said. “What matters is the world reacted, and he saw that speech has consequences.

“You can say the most hateful s— you want, and you can be boisterous and loud and get attention, and that has worked very well, but it’s going to have consequences,” Miranda added.

Trump sparked controversy at his campaign launch for saying that Mexico was sending criminals across the U.S. border.

“They’re sending people who have a lot of problems,” Trump said of Mexico during his address from New York City’s Trump Tower.

“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists,” he added. “And some, I assume, are good people.”

But the backlash over Trump’s remarks shows no signs of derailing his Oval Office bid. The real estate kingpin is currently leading the Republican field in national polls.
