Dukakis on Clinton: Everyone in DC uses private email

Former Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis said Friday morning that controversy over current front-runner Hillary Clinton’s exclusive use of private email while secretary of State is “nonsense.”

{mosads}”The notion that there was something wrong with what she was doing is just foolishness. But people have been banging away at it and it’s done some damage,” the former Massachusetts governor said on CNN’s “New Day.”

“You tell me of one person in Washington, of any prominence, that doesn’t have a private email which he or she uses all the time and a private cellphone as well, I mean this is absurd,” he said.

Dukakis, the 1988 Democratic White House pick, has signaled his support of Clinton in her 2016 White House bid, though the longtime front-runner has slipped in several recent polls amid a federal probe into her email arrangement and a surge by Democratic rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

“If I want to get a hold of a Cabinet secretary, I don’t use the official website. I mean, you’d never get through. You pick up the phone, you call somebody who knows the Cabinet secretary and say, give me his or her private email, and you use it,” Dukakis added.
