Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) decision to retire from Congress in October will be the talk of the town on Sunday.
Boehner will sit down with John Dickerson on CBS’s “Face the Nation” to explain his shocking exit, which he announced the day after Pope Francis addressed Congress, a crowning achievement for the Catholic Speaker.
{mosads}GOP primary hopeful and Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R), who served with Boehner in the House for 10 years, will follow the speaker on CBS to discuss his presidential campaign and his former colleague’s decision to step down.
Boehner’s predecessor as speaker, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), will headline CNN’s “State of the Union” to give her reaction to Boehner’s resignation.
Several presidential primary contenders will also make appearances on Sunday.
Ben Carson will make the rounds on ABC’s “This Week” and CNN’s “State of the Union.” He’ll likely face questions about his claim last week that a Muslim should not be elected president.
Carly Fiorina will try to maintain her momentum on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush headlines “Fox News Sunday.”
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton will headline NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will follow Boehner on CBS and former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley will join Jake Tapper on CNN.
Former president Bill Clinton will also sit down for an interview on CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS.”
Here’s the rest of Sunday’s expected guests across all five major shows:
ABC’s “This Week”: U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power follows Carson to discuss the visits of Pope Francis and China President Xi Jinping’s U.S. visit. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) and former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ohio) will also be on the program to discuss Boehner’s resignation.
CBS’s “Face the Nation”: John Dickerson lands another big name in Boehner after his exclusive interview with presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton last week. Sanders and Kasich round out the crowded top half of the show.
CNN’s “State of the Union”: Along with appearances from Pelosi, O’Malley, and Carson, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter (D) will be on the program to discuss the pope’s visit to his city.
“Fox News Sunday”: Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), a Boehner ally, and Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), a Boehner critic, will weigh in on the Speaker’s resignation.
NBC’s “Meet the Press”: Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton will make her second Sunday show appearance in as many weeks after a five year hiatus. The network will also release a new NBC News/WSJ poll, and Papal biographer George Weigel will also discuss Pope Francis’s landmark U.S. visit.
