Officials say one is dead and three wounded after an early morning shooting at Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff.

Authorities said that a suspect, identified as freshman Steven Jones, 18, was in custody and cooperating with investigators.

NAU Police Chief Gregory Fowler said at a press conference on Friday that the shooting stemmed from a confrontation at a university parking lot.

The early Thursday morning incident turned deadly when one student brandished a handgun.

Police reportedly responded to a call of shots fired at approximately 1:20 a.m. local time near Mountain View Hall, a major hub of NAU’s Greek life.

The Delta Chi fraternity said some of its members were involved in the shooting but said it “was not a chapter-related incident.”

The wounded, whose conditions are not clear, are being treated at the Flagstaff Medical Center.
