Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) says President Obama is “the most anti-gun president” in history.
In an interview with CNN on Thursday, the 2016 presidential contender defended his claims that Obama is not telling the truth to the American public about his executive actions on guns.
Cruz’s campaign recently posted a photoshopped image on its website of the president wearing combat gear, with a caption that says, “Obama wants your guns.”
{mosads}Cruz defended the image, saying “It is actually quite accurate, this is the most anti-gun president we’ve ever seen.”
The image, which was intended as a fundraising pitch, went up on Tuesday, shortly after Obama unveiled his executive actions aimed at reducing gun violence.
The actions include expanding background checks on certain gun sales and increased enforcement of existing gun laws.
Asked if he believed the president was only trying to protect children from gun violence, Cruz said he believed the president had larger goals.
“Absolutely not,” he responded. “And in fact, I’ll tell you who I do take at her word. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who said, ‘if I could go to Mr. America, Mrs. America, and say, hand over your guns, I want all of your guns, I would do it.’ “
“I believe Dianne when she said that. And you know what? Barack Obama is in exactly the same boat,” Cruz added.
