Rubio: Sean Penn’s El Chapo interview ‘grotesque’

Florida senator and GOP presidential candidate Marco Rubio called actor Sean Penn’s interview with a notorious drug lord “grotesque” on Sunday morning.

{mosads}Penn secretly interviewed Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán for Rolling Stone after he escaped from a Mexican prison last summer and evaded capture for months.

“If one of these American actors who have benefited from the greatness of this country, who have made money from our free enterprise system, want to go fawn all over a criminal and a drug trafficker in their interviews, they have a constitutional right to do it,” Rubio said on ABC’s “This Week.” “I find it grotesque.”

Guzmán, one of the world’s most wanted fugitives, was recaptured Friday.

A Mexican federal law enforcement official has said Penn’s interview helped authorities locate Guzmán, according to The Associated Press.

When asked if Rubio had a problem with what Penn did, the candidate said he didn’t realize the actor “was still around.”

If Mexican authorities were able to locate Guzmán because of Penn’s interview, Rubio said, “that’s fantastic.”
