Blizzard conditions in Washington are keeping key figures away from the nation’s capital.

Vice President Joe Biden’s plane will be diverted to Miami on Saturday evening, instead of returning home to Washington.

{mosads}Biden was scheduled to come home after meeting with key politicians in Turkey earlier in the day.

Earlier Saturday, Defense Secretary Ash Carter also had to divert his fight to Florida.

Carter had been traveling back to America from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, but could not make his regularly scheduled landing at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, according to the Associated Press. Andrews is the also the home-base for the president’s Air Force One.

His plane instead touched down in Tampa, Fla. The city is the home of U.S. Central Command’s MacDill Air Force Base.

Washington is being pummeled by a storm that’s dropped more than a foot of snow on the city and has shown no signs of letting up. The city’s transportation service has shuttered all public transportation for the entire weekend, and New York City is enforcing a travel ban.
