Netanyahu blasts UN, praises ‘unbreakable bond’ with US

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday lambasted the United Nations while stressing that the bond between Israel and U.S. remains unbreakable.

{mosads}”The road to peace runs through Jerusalem and Ramallah, not New York,” Netanyahu said at the U.N. General Assembly in New York City, according to a report by the Jerusalem Post.

The prime minister slammed the “moral farce” of the U.N. and criticized the general U.N. attitude toward Israel. He added that Israel is cooperating, more than ever, with other countries in the region.

“For the first time in my lifetime, many other states in the region recognize that Israel is not their enemy, they recognize that Israel is their ally,” he said. “Our common enemies are Iran and [the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria], our common goals are prosperity and peace.”

“I hope that in the future we will work together openly,” Netanyahu added.

Despite his criticism of the international organization, Netanyahu maintained that the U.S. and Israel have an “unbreakable bond.”

“Our unbreakable bond with the USA transcends parties and politics. It reflects, above all else, the overwhelming support of Israel among the American people, which is at record highs, and for which we are grateful,” he said.

During his last U.N. address on Tuesday, President Obama said that the peace between Israel and Palestine will only be realized when Palestinians “reject incitement and recognize the legitimacy of Israel” and when “Israel recognizes it cannot permanently occupy and settle Palestinian land.”

Obama reiterated his message on Wednesday when he met with Netanyahu to discuss the elusive two-state solution to the conflict.
