Michelle Obama will “never run” for political office despite her high profile on the 2016 campaign trail, President Obama said Friday.
“She will never run for office,” Obama said in an interview on the “Sway in the Morning” satellite radio show Friday.
{mosads}“She is as talented and brilliant a person as there is, and I could not be prouder of her, but Michelle does not have the patience or the inclination to actually be a candidate herself,” the president added. “That’s one thing y’all can take to the bank.”
Obama’s words are sure to disappoint Democrats, who have been openly hoping the 52-year-old first lady might someday be convinced to launch her own political career.
Michelle Obama has earned plaudits as Hillary Clinton’s most effective surrogate, making a series of powerful speeches on behalf of the Democratic presidential nominee.
But the first lady has been a reluctant player on the political stage, and those close to her have long denied she has any desire to seek political office.
