Leader of French nationalist party congratulates Trump
The fiery leader of France’s far right, nationalist party congratulated Republican presidential nominee as he grew closer to winning the presidency.
“Congratulations to the new president of the United States Donald Trump and the American people, free!” tweeted Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s National Front party.
Le Pen is known for her brash but savvy leadership. She backed the United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union and has expressed support for Trump in the past.
Her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, who was also the party’s leader, has also said he would vote for Trump if he were American.
As Le Pen tweeted her congratulations, Trump was zeroing in on the 270 electoral votes he needs to defeat Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Projections to win Pennsylvania and Alaska brought Trump to 264 votes compared to Clinton’s 215.
